Mix vegetable Appam, a popular South Indian dish, is also widely known all over India. It is prepared using rice dal batter with the taste of a variety of veggies mixed in it. These Appam are a favorite snack or breakfast for many and typically most common for South Indians. Also, Appam is given different names in different regions, many of its names include appe, paddu, Appam, paniyaram etc. If you are up for an authentic south Indian breakfast recipe then you are at the right place. Let’s learn to prepare healthy and yummy mixed veg appams. 

Ingredients

  1. Rice – 1 ½ cups
  2. Black Gram Skinned– ½ cup (washed)
  3. Cauliflower – ¼ cup (grated)
  4. Green capsicum – ¼ cup (finely chopped)
  5. Cabbage – ¼ cup (grated)
  6. Carrot – ¼ cup (grated)
  7. Ginger – ½ tsp (grated)
  8. Green chili – 1 piece (chopped)
  9. Green coriander – ¼ cup (finely chopped)
  10. Rock salt – 1 tsp
  11. Cayenne pepper – ½ tsp
  12. Mango powder – ½ tsp
  13. Cumin powder– 1 tsp 
  14. Baking soda – ¼ tsp

Instructions

  • First, take 1 ½ cup rice and ½ cup washed black gram in a pot for soaking overnight in four times water.
  • In the morning, drain the excess water and pour the content into a blender.
  • Blend the mixture until you get a smooth paste.
  • Transfer this paste to a bowl and add a few ingredients.
  • Take ¼ cup grated Cauliflower, ¼ cup finely chopped Green capsicum, ¼ cup grated cabbage, ¼ cup grated carrot, ½ tsp grated ginger, one piece of chopped green chili, and ¼ cup finely chopped Green coriander.
  • Mix all these items properly in the smooth paste of rice and lentils.
  • In spices, add 1 tsp Rock salt, ½ tsp Cayenne pepper, ½ tsp Mango powder, and 1 tsp Cumin powder.
  • Once again, mix these spices well in the mixture, and at last, add ¼  teaspoon of baking soda and mix it gently.
  • Take a cast iron Appam maker and apply oil all over it.
  • An average of 2 tbsp batter must be placed in the sections of the Appam maker.
  • Put it on flame for around 3 – 4 minutes and turn it again until it is crispy.
  • Please note that the gas must be at a medium flame.
  • Your mixed vegetable Appam is ready to eat.
  • Serve and savor!

In addition, having adequate cauliflower in your diet will improve your immune system and reduce the effect of the common cold.

Carrot

It contains beta-carotene, which helps increase your body’s Vitamin A content. Eating this can eliminate eye problems like cataracts and protect your eyes from the sun. It also helps in maintaining blood sugar level and is beneficial for bone health.
