- Urad dal/Split washed black gram – 1 teaspoon
- Chana dal/Split Bengal gram – 1 teaspoon
- Asafoetida/Hing – ¼ teaspoon
- Green chili – 2-3 (finely chopped)
- Dried red chili – 2 (whole)
- Curry leaves – 8-10
- Beetroot – 2 medium-sized (small diced)
- Turmeric – ½ teaspoon
- Salt – 1 teaspoon
- Water – ¼ cup
- Coconut – ¼ cup (shredded)
- Dulse – 1 teaspoon
Preparation time: 30-40 minutes

- Take a pan and heat it
- Add oil and mustard seeds
- Let them crackle
- Now add urad dal,chana dal and roast them till they become light brown

- Add salt, turmeric, and water
- Mix everything together
- Cover it with a lid
- Let it cook for 8-10 minutes on medium flame
- Open the lid and stir it
- Check if the beetroot pieces still feels firm
- Again, cover it with a lid
- Let it cook for 4-5 minutes on medium flame
- Open the lid and stir it
- Make sure that all water is absorbed
- Now add shredded coconut and dulse
- Mix everything together
- Your beetroot poriyal is ready
- Serve it and top it with some coconut
